Mac Internet Setup Assistant

Macintosh computers have an Internet Setup Assistant or System Preferences usually located at:

  1. Click on Apple (top, left corner)
  2. Internet Access
  3. Internet Setup Assistant

Once you activate the Mac Internet Setup Assistant, follow the directions on the screen. Most of the time you will be clicking on Next. Here is some of the other information the Setup Assistant will ask you for:

Name:                   allcom.net
Connect:                modem
Access Phone Number:    895-9901 (recommended if local call)
Name (log-in/user ID):  username (all lowercase, do NOT include 
                                  @allcom.net)
Password:
Use PPP Script:         no
IP Address:             no
DNS Address:            72.35.32.161
                        64.85.136.161
Domain Name:            allcom.net
E-mail Address:         username@allcom.net
Password:
E-mail Account:         username@allcom.net
E-mail Host:            mail.allcom.net
Newsgroup (NNTP)        news.allcom.net
Proxies:                no



Setting up TCP/IP

  1. Get into TCP/IP (usually found in the Control Panel).
  2. Connect via: PPP
    Configure: Using PPP Server
    Name Server Addr: 72.35.32.161 and 64.85.136.161
    Search Domains: allcom.net
  3. Exit TCP/IP.

If you do not have MacTCP or TCP/IP then you will have to contact the people you purchased your computer from.  Without TCP you will not be able to use the Internet.



Setting up PPP (also known as Open Transport PPP)

  1. Get into PPP (usually found in the Control Panel).
  2. Name: username (all lowercase, does NOT include @allcom.net)
    Password: password (upper and lowercase letters)
    Save Password: Yes
    Number: 895-9901 (recommended if local call)
  3. Close PPP.



Setting Up Remote Access

  1. Get into Remote Access (usually found in the Control Panel).
  2. Name: username
    Password: password (upper and lowercase letters)
    Number: 895-9901 (recommended if local call)
  3. Click on OK.



Setting Up ConfigPPP

  1. Get into ConfigPPP (usually found in the Control Panel).
  2. Port Name: Modem Port
    Hang Up On Close: Checked
  3. To create allcom.net for PPP server, click on NEW.
    To edit allcom.net for PPP server, click on Config.
  4. Port Speed: 28.8, 33.6, or 56k = 57,600, 14.4 = 19,200
    Flow Control: CTS & RTS (DTR)
    Phone Number: 895-9901 (recommended if local call)
    If Modem Init is blank, then type ATZ.
  5. Click on Authentication.
    Auth ID: username (all lowercase, does NOT include @allcom.net)
    Password: password (upper and lowercase letters)
    Click on OK.
  6. Click on Connect Script.
    Erase all fields and check boxes. All outs should be selected.
  7. Click on OK.
  8. Click on Done.
  9. Select allcom.net for the PPP Server.
  10. Close ConfigPPP.



Setting up FreePPP

  1. Get into FreePPP (usually found in the Control Panel).
  2. If you do not see three tabs labeled General, Accounts, Locations, then click on the triangle in the bottom, left corner. The three tabs should appear.
  3. Click on Accounts.
  4. Click on New.
  5. Click on Account.
    Server Name: allcom.net
    Connect: Directly
    User name: username (all lowercase, does NOT include @allcom.net)
    Password: password (upper and lowercase)
  6. Click on Dialup.
    Main Number - Area Code: 616
    Main Number - Phone Number: 895-9901 (recommended if local call)
    Main Number - Dial Area Code: Blank
    Main Number - Dial as Long Distance: Blank
  7. Click on Options.
    Domain Name: allcom.net
    Primary DNS: 72.35.32.161
    Secondary DNS: 64.85.136.161
  8. Click on OK.
  9. Click on Modem.
  10. Select your modem, click on Edit.
    Port Speed: 28.8, 33.6, or 56k = 57,600, 14.4 = 19,200
    Flow Control: CTS & RTS (DTR)
  11. Click on OK.
  12. Connect to: allcom.net
  13. Close out of FreePPP Setup.




Configuring OS X Dialup - Mac

  1. Click on Apple at the upper left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on System Preferences.
  3. Click on Network icon. (either in the first of the fourth row)
  4. Set Location to Automatic
  5. Set Show to Modem Port
  6. Click on the TCP/IP tab
      Configure: Using PPP
      IP Address: 72.35.32.161
        64.85.136.161
  7. Click on Apply now
  8. Click on the PPP tab
      Service Provider: allcom.net
      Telephone Number: number given on front of brochure
      Account Name: your username (does NOT incude @allcom.net)
      Password: your password
  9. Click on Save Password
  10. Click on Apply Now
  11. Click on Modems tab
      Dialing: set to tone or pulse depending on what you have
      Check 'Show modem status in menu bar'
  12. Click on Apply Now
