Windows 95 or 98:
Getting disconnected frequently, only connecting once out of several tries, or extremely slow connections
First, try to check your dialer settings.
Some modems that don't meet the latest standards can't stay connected for long periods of time. To fix this, visit www.56k.com and click on upgrades. Select your modem from the list, download, and install the drivers. To download and install the drivers, follow the directions on 56k's website.
If you can't stay connected long enough to download the drivers, you might be able to shutdown the 56k on your modem temporarily. To do this:
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on Dial-up Networking
- Single click on altelco dialer
- Click on File
- Click on Properties
- Click on Configure
- Click on Connection
- Click on Advanced
- Fill in the Extra Settings box with at-v90=0
- Click on OK
- Click on OK
If the above does not work or you get an error message. Try it again, but put at+ms=v34 into the Extra Settings box. If this also fails or does not resolve the problem, follow the above steps and blank out the Extra Settings box.
If it does work. It proves you have the 56k bug. Go to www.56k.com and download the latest drivers for your modem. Once you have installed those drivers, follow the above steps and blank out the Extra Settings box.
